Mobile Printing
Most modern smartphones and tablets have the ability to print wireless to AirPrint and Mopria certified printers without any need to install additional software or drivers regardless of the brand of the printer. Airprint has been included in the Apple IOS operating system since 2010. In 2017 with the release of Android version 8 (Oreo), Mopria printing was built in to the Android operating system.
Requirements:
Requirements:
- Your network printer must be Airprint and/or MOPRIA compliant.
- Your mobile device must be on the same network as your printer.
- The app you want to print from must support printing.
- Androids must be running version 8 or higher, or have the Mopria App installed on the mobile device.
IN THE LAB
1) Both of the printers we have in the lab are Airprint and Mopria print compatible and should be on all the time. If the printer you want is not listed as a printer on your mobile device you may have to wake up the printer. The black laser printer should say READY on the display window, if not, touch the X button on the printer. On the HP Inkjet if the screen is solid black, touch the screen to wake it up. 2) To print to our printers in the lab, you must be connected to the WiFi network displaying a Service Set Identifier (SSID) that begins with ClubMembers. WFi login information is on the clipboard on the black desk. The most common reasons that a printer is not listed are:

3) The app you want to print from needs to support printing. Many apps do not support printing. If the app has a printer Icon, use that to print. If there is not a printer icon, the Print Option is usually tucked away under the share option. Some Email applications have printing under the Reply or Forward option.
If the app does not offer printing, you can always take a screenshot and then print the screenshot from the photos app. |

Select a printer

Press Print.
The next screen shows what the Apple Airprint options look like in iOS 18. Older versions of IOS are not nearly this sophisticated.
The Options offered will vary by the printer you selected, and the operating system you are printing from.

When you click on printer selection box, you should see a list of the printers available on the network. In the lab you should see the black and white printer the HP LaserJet 400, and the color printer the HP OfficeJetPro 9130e.
The most common reasons that a printer is not listed are:
The printer is not turned on or not ready.
The mobile device is running on cellular data instead of being connected to network via WiFi.
The mobile device is connected to either "VistaRoyale Residents" or "xfinitywifi" instead of "ClubMembers".

MOBILE PRINTING AT HOME
Some wireless printers do not support AirPrint and Mopria printing. This is especially true for older models. However, if a printer has wireless capability, you can usually still print to it by downloading the printer's app. For example, you can download the HP Smart app for HP printers or the Canon PRINT InkJet app for Canon printers.
If you are in the market for a new printer, I'd strongly recommend paying a few extra bucks to get one that is Airprint and Mopria certified. If you already have a wireless printer, check to see if AirPrint is one of its features. Some AirPrint printers that predate Mopria printing, added Mopria printing as a firmware update. Make sure to update your printers firmware.
Typically there are three ways to set up wireless printers.
Make sure your smartphone or tablet is connected to your home WiFi network.
Find an app on your smartphone or tablet, that allows printing, and then test to make sure you can see your printer.
